I am Chaz, AKA CHAZART. I am a Cape Town based contemporary artist.
I dedicate myself to the exploration of cultures, people and emotion. I have found a love in portrait art. The power of art and the human connection with a portrait is something that cannot be described or explained but rather enjoyed and felt. A complex emotion can act as a lesson, a story or a mirror to those who view my work. Art can be fun, serious, playful and striking, but above all art is emotive and powerful. It is there for everyone and for every purpose. I see oil painting as the ultimate form of artistic expression. The Rolls-Royce of fine arts.
I am a believer in being a purist. I am dedicated to one goal and that’s to put my work on the biggest pedestals in the world. As affirmation to myself and my life dedication to the acquisition of skill.
My art and my art beliefs have connected me with some of my favourite people on this globe. It has put me in positions and given me experiences which I never thought were possible. I have sold to such amazing people, including buyers such as the Kennedy family, John Lewis, the Tutu Foundation, the US Embassy and... My personal favourite, DJ Black Coffee.
CHARITY
Together with many partnering companies and individuals I have been privileged enough to get involved in raising money for the less fortunate through art. Every year I participate in charity events and auctions. Here I have been able to make a difference and raise millions and millions of rands for South African Charities.
Art is powerful and purposeful and has the ability to do so much! Believe in art.
I dedicate this piece to the memory of my late father. A man who was a romantic about his country and an obsessed Bok supporter.
I was fortunate enough to have been asked to do the official Springbok mural four years ago and I am very proud that I am able to do a piece this year.
I have introduced a lot of my own impasto style and deconstructism into this piece which I feel makes it not just a memorial piece but an investment into me as an artist as well.
Through chaos and energy I have tried to depict the emotion and intensity of what it must’ve been like for our players BUT also what we all felt at home watching.
This piece and what it symbolizes is something I will never forget. It is a timeless memory for our people and I hope the life of this piece is equally as timeless.
