Imibala Summer Gala Silent Auction 2024

In IsiXhosa, the word “Imibala” means “colours”. “Turning Grey Todays into Colourful Tomorrows” and is a phrase that Imibala has embodied - to convey our mission to bring more colour and positivity into the lives of countless people in the Helderberg and Graaff-Reinet areas.

Our organisation started small, with a simple goal – to provide support to the region’s children (and their caregivers) in the form of school supplies and uniforms. As Imibala has grown, so too has the scope of what we do – organically adapting to meet the identified needs of school children on an academic, social and cultural level. To that extent the programmes now span drama, pottery, ballet, music, robotics, mathematics, literacy, and life skills, all running from our Imibala precinct in Somerset West.

In 2002, when statistics were first compiled, 53 children were supported through the Trust. In 2023, a sustainable cohort of 3,000 children, from 31 schools (21 schools in the Helderberg and 10 schools in Graaff-Reinet) received school uniforms. Additionally, over 8000 Imibala students benefit from our extensive extramural programme, and over the years more than 87,000 lives have been touched and transformed by the Imibala initiatives.

Today, with the support of more than 2,000 donors, sponsors, and volunteers, the Imibala Trust is growing from strength to strength, preparing the youth for a better future.

The Imibala Summer Gala’s live auction, and the Silent Auction on this platform, were held for the first time in 2023 and raised R11.5 million. These funds have made it possible for Imibala to open a new property in Hermanus, as well as procure busses and other much needed equipment for the existing Imibala Village.

All the proceeds from this year’s auction, both live and silent, will again go directly and fully to growing and maintaining The Imibala Trust, thereby making a changeable, positive difference to the lives of thousands of children.
