Title: Riverine Rabbit

Description:

Paperclay Ceramic Sculpture- Raku Fired. Riverine Rabbits are critically endangered due to agricultural development of its natural habitat. They live in a forced lockdown thanks to human development and encroachment. Thanks to the Covid pandemic- we have had a slight taste of the vulnerability of these rabbits, the forced hiding of our loved ones and ourselves from an enemy outside of our control. These vulnerable, critically endangered animals deserve protection, like the vulnerable, medically compromised deserve protection from Covid. It is up to humanity to protect the vulnerable, to defend the defenseless and create a world of change to protect those creatures and people who rely on humanity to save them. The process of Raku- thermal shock creates forced cracks in the glaze and the sculpture is then smoked where the smoke penetrates the cracks to highlight them. Through our brokenness, beauty can be found. We as human are all broken and its through the appreciation of our physical and mental scars that we can find healing and beauty. Covid has highlighted our flaws, our vulnerability. Its through acknowledging our vulnerability like that of the Riverine Rabbit, that we can collectively find healing.
