Description:
The artwork depicts an intimate scenario in my family home, my grandmother cooking in paraffin stove and my brother and nephew sitting around her. The reference images that inspired the artwork was taken during the first few weeks of lockdown, this was a time of confusion for many people especially in the township. When I finally got home my grandmother described her reaction to the lock down as having to just sit and wait, and be safe. She mentioned that she made sure my brother and nephew did not go out most of the time, they all sat down together and she would often light the heater as water was approaching she would often tell the stories which we call “intsomi” in the Xhosa language
