Title: Shattered with a touch of hope

Description:

The Covid pandemic has lead to much loss and pain for a large amount of individuals. The overall composition and subject matter of this artwork is strange and unbalanced which acts as a reflection on the strange and chaotic times of the pandemic. The shattered face expresses strong emotion, linking to the feelings of loss and pain, of shattered dreams and broken hearts. These are just some of the things we have felt through this pandemic. However there is an element of hope to this image. Behind the shattered face is a bright red strawberry, a symbol of love, fruitfulness and most importantly rebirth (strawberries are one of the first to ripen in spring). The strawberry is grasped between the tips of our fingers and maybe if we pick up the pieces of ourselves that are lying on the floor we might have a chance of starting something new. And in fact if one looks more closely one might be able to see that the shattered face may in fact be laughing with elation rather than shouting out in anguish.
