Artist statement:
These beautiful marshes are on the West Coast of the Western Province of South Africa about a two hour drive north of Cape Town and adjacent to salt pans. The rushes and low growing coastal plants are colourful and plenty of water birds can be seen too. The colour tones of this scene are fairly close to each other and the skies have been mostly calm when I have painted there which makes a peaceful setting to try to capture.
About the artist:
The artist was born in Scotland in 1941 and studied painting and drawing at the Heatherley School of Art in London from 1965 to 1968 and has paintings in private collections internationally. She emigrated to Cape Town in 1993. She paints in both watercolour and oil and is particularly interested in landscape and still life. Her work can be seen in The Cape Gallery at 60 Church Street in Cape Town's vibrant city centre.
