Artist statement:
He called the dry ground ‘land’ and the gathered waters ‘seas’. What is above, I have found below - a resemblance in form and colour, symbolic of the conscious and subconscious. Through daily walks in nature, I am drawn to the here and now. The crunch of stones under my feet, the smell of fynbos on a salty sea breeze, the sight of a hummingbird hovering in mid-air. Disturb or remove one, and it affects all. Order turns to chaos, beauty to decay. We are connected. Intentionally living and working together for the good of others, intricately linked, creatures and Creation, we shape a new nature that is filled with Life.
About the artist:
Seeking God and beauty in everyday life has taken me on a journey of discovery and transformation since a young age.
Inspired during my school- and student years by passionate art lecturers at respectively
Pro Arte High School and the University of Pretoria, I learnt how to use art as a medium of expression.
After obtaining my BA(BK) Information Design degree, I joined the international missions organisation Youth with a Mission for 4 years - a cross-cultural adventure which took me to places all over the world.
In 1999, I entered the field of print media-design. I worked as graphic designer, art director and illustrator at various titles, including House & Garden, Sarie, Lééf-met hart & siel, Sarie Kos, Home Magazine, Fairlady and Good Housekeeping. I am currently pursuing new creative ways as fine artist.
The past 20 years my son, Sebastien, and I, have been sharing an apartment in Cape Town. I live by myself now in Oranjezicht at the foot of Table Mountain, close to the Atlantic Ocean - both a constant source of wonder and inspiration.
