Artist statement:

The work is amostly a meditative piece, reflecting on the past, this is done by means of repetitive actions like weaving and stitching of the paper. The work is about the labour and technical excellence that can consume everyday life. The day to day living seems mundane in the bigger picture (image) but inspected up-close, you'll find the beauty that lies in every step, idea, decision, mistake, untouched dreams that we make.

The work is a digital edited and layered image, the same image is then printed in mutiple shades, cut into horizontal and vertical strips then weaved and stitiched back in to one image

About the artist:

Born in Johannesburg in 1981 and moved to Pretoria where he continued attended school from 1990, even from a young age Will had a deep love for being creative. His Grandma was a dress maker and he learned a lot from her, as the eldest grandchild he learned sawing, needlework, embroidery, crocheting, knitting, weaving and more.

In high school Will had art as one of his major subjects but unfortunately he did not have the opportunity to study fine arts after school. Never losing his love for art, he started to work as a picture framer in 2000 at Centurion Gallery and has sins met and learned a lot from many artists that he has had the privilege of meeting in the process.

Will sees himself as a miniaturist (considering the time and fragility of the mediums) especially when working with mixed-media materials. He previously worked in oil, pencil, acrylics and even charcoal up until 2013 he the then began experimenting with artworks by incorporating mixed-media and found that he enjoy working with paper and mixing it with traditional fabric techniques that he learned when he was young. Most of the works revolve around the concept of fairy tales, fables, folklore, myths and mythology. But having a strong opinion on other subjects like environmental, psychological, animal activism and more also attracts him to produce art.
