Maggie Mnikathi and Nelly Hlongwane, with the assistance of Alex Sibande, have
created a trio of “contraband” towers. Featuring representations of pangolin scales,
elephant tusks and rhino horns, these patterened sculptures illustrate the magnitude
of how much money is being made from the exploitation of these creatures. We can’t
help being left feeling empty and sad by this ongoing tragedy.
